Conspiracy Theory

Ok folks, so lately I've been researching natural alternatives to every-day products and foods for our family. I have come to two conclusions which leave me very frustrated: #1: "normal" everday foods, even meat and dairy, are FULL of unhealthy stuff from pesticides to preservatives, and from hormones to antibiotics #2: Our only other option is to pay THROUGH THE NOSE for 'natural' alternatives some of which may or may not be what they claim to be.

So my main question is WHY? WHY does the FDA let these bad things into our food, and WHY aren't the natural foods more readily available and at a lower price? Shouldn't meat/veggies cost LESS when they're not paying for pesticides and hormones?? And why are my baby diapering and bath products full of chemicals that may cause cancer? It all comes down to money- the bad food companies want their products to make it unto our shelves so they pay off the FDA to look the other way. Sure some 'studies' might show there's nothing negative about a product- but those studies are paid for and rigged by the very company who wants to sell their yucky product. Don't believe me? Look up how aspartame made it past the FDA- it will infuriate you. I am not normally the kind of person who gets mad and hyped up about this kind of thing, but the more I read the more scared I am about what we put in/on our bodies and the negative effects they may have. And it just makes me MAD that these companies & agencies don't care about our families' well-being whatsoever.

What's YOUR opinion? Leave a comment I really want to know!

EDIT** I found this petition online- check it out:
http://www.cosmeticdatabase.com
It's about getting congress to pass a law that regulates the chemicals put in personal care products (right now they can put WHATEVER they want in them- including baby stuff!)

You should totally go to http://www.mothering.com/discussions/ They talk a lot about natural birth but there is a whole slew of other great information.
I think some things you can do is have your own garden. Go to the farmer market. If you can find grass fed cows, that's even better. Having your own chickens. Stuff like that. i use olive oil as my skin moisterizer. I only wash my hair once a week with soap. It takes about a month going no shampoo for your hair to get used to it. There is so much good information out there about all the natural stuff. I'm a bit into it all. Although we don't get all organic. There are some things you don't have to worry as much about, like things with thick peels. Banana's or oranges. Anyway, I commented and now you know a few things I think about.

I don't have any theories. I have no idea but I do feel your frustration. Who do you believe? Who can you trust? What is true? It's definitely good to always question everything.

I haven't really researched it so I don't have much of an opinion other than this: cancer and all the other crap that is killing everybody off is totally from cheap convenience food (and microwaving your food in tupperware). I hate that the "good" stuff is so expensive. I agree with Marly that we all have to have our own gardens. The chicken thing though...I just can't see you raising them, killing them, plucking them and then consuming them. I just don't think you're that kind of girl :)

I was kind of thinking the chicken thing to get your own eggs :)
I have a friend who got chickens, for eggs, and decided to kill one and eat it. Even after all the research she did, it didn't go as planned. If I had chickens, they would just be for eggs ;)

Wow you got some good feed back from your readers. I have another thought for you... Have you read or heard anything about Red #40? I am not giving Addie anything with red #40 or high fruit...corn surup in it for as long as possiable. It is bad news!! I really think (Some) organic stuff is a load of bull!!! They just want your money!

for real, it sucks- "oh you don't want to give your baby cancer? here's some safe diapers- now give me $1 for each."

I get thinking about it and it jsut frustrates me, so I just do what I can. I w ould buy organic if I could afford it. If I have to options and the price is similar than I will go organic. I believe that we are just lied to by the FDA na everyone else that wants our money and I just have ot do the best I can and go with my gut. Wash everything, grow my own garden and pray over my food:) They always come out with soemthing new that causes cancer but I can't walk around terrified by it all. It's the same as immunizations--why are there so many debates about it. Is it harmful or not? Soemone is always trying to gain money from the people and you just don't know who to trust.

It's true, Tiffanie. Trust no one! Praying over the food did come to me when I was feeling upset- so that is comforting! I'm pro-immunizations, there are rare cases that cause problems, but it's just based on an individual's body chemistry. Just because one person reacts badly doesn't mean another will. I definitely don't want my kids getting any of those illnesses- measles is coming back b/c people aren't immunizing- it's so sad!

yea, I'm a non immunizer but that's because both my boys had pretty bad reactions to almost all their immunizations. It's totally an individual thing and my family is just one of those who don't do well with them.

My only suggestion is to remember moderation in all things. Most testing of products is done with mega doses of ingredients, not real usage doses so you dont't get an accurate real life comparison. Gardens are great, fresh veggies are better than processed. Immunizations are good, of course I come from the medical side of things, but I also grew up when measles, mumps, rubella, chickenpox, polio were rampant. Things are definitely much better. The church sponsors immunizations in 3rd world countries, so I don't think it can be all bad.

I feel the same way. We also immunize but we buy organic milk and veggies and fruit when they're not too expensive. I also am leary of processed foods, preservatives and artificial sweetners. We make our own cleaning products, make Belle's babyfood (we did for Jack too) and we cloth diaper the two kids. Some people think that we're "hardcore" or that we do more work than necessary but my dh and I feel that everything we do is worth it. I actually wish that we could do more! You are not alone, I don't trust the FDA at all!
