Kaden's Mystery Fevers

So here's an update- some of you know about Kaden's 106 degree fevers that recur every month for no apparent reason...well we finally went to a specialist last week and they think he may have what's called PFAPA (periodic fever, aphthous stomatitis, pharyngitis, cervical adenitis). This is exactly what I thought it was after googling "recurring fevers" and reading a bunch of reports...so thanks specialist, but I googled it already??!

They basically know nothing about WHY they get this syndrome, or HOW to fix it...but it usually ends after 10 years old, and there are some random treatments that work (they don't know why) in certain cases. We've opted to treat him with some stomach ulcer meds that are supposed to keep the fevers lower and less frequent. It's kind of a pain because he has to take it twice a day every day- but if it will keep the fevers down then it's worth it. I cannot tell you how scary it is to have your 2 year old up at 1am with a 106 degree fever. So if these meds work then we'll keep them up- if not then there are some other tests they can run to rule out other syndromes, and if all else fails, a tonsillectomy has helped in some cases (again, they don't know why!) Here is a link to more information if you're curious: http://www.orpha.net/data/patho/GB/uk-PFAPA.pdf

3 Months Old

This week Kyson turned 3 months old! I can't believe how fast the time is going by. His little personality is really coming out- the main aspect seems to be his HUGE appetite! He STILL eats at least 4 oz. every two hours (He goes longer during the night thank heavens.)...I guess he's just going through another growth spurt. He is looking more and more like Tyler every day- I am just going to have to accept the fact that my boys look nothing like me...Besides eating, Ky likes pooping (formula poo- yuck!) and sucking his fist/my hair/anything else he can maneuver over to his little mouth. He is also getting really good at trying to sit up on his own- I know it's early, but he totally lifts his whole head and shoulders off the pillow when he's propped up. The picture to the left is his pouty face when we were taking too long getting his bottle ready.

My New Favorite (aka birthday/Christmas gift ideas)

So I've found this new website called Etsy (thanks dooce) and I'm totally addicted! I've added it to my left-hand column- so take a peek...

French Kissing

Yep that's his tongue! I'm pretty sure he's searching for milk, but I tell myself he's kissing me :)

Ahh, Sweet Rewards!

Our Saturday morning went like this:
6:41am-6:50am- Kaden: Mom, mom, I get my bike today! Let's go to the store!
6:50am-Me: Go wake up your dad- tell him.
6:50am-9:30am: Dad, dad, DAaad- Take me to the store to get my bike! I went potty like a big boy. Big boy bike, big boy bike....is the store OPEN yet?!(You get the idea...)
Well if you couldn't guess, Kaden's reward for 2 weeks of great potty training (1 whole week without accidents) was his very first bike! We went to Toys R Us where he proceeded to try a Spider Man bike ("too hard"), a Tonka Tough Bike ("too big"), a no-name green bike ("too wittle"), and finally a shiny silver bike with a cute shark on it ("This is my FAVEowit!"). We snatched up the shark bike as well as a Lightening McQueen helmet (he kept calling it a mitt) and knee pads. When we finally got it home and put together he proceede to biff it immediatley on the first try ("THAT'S what these pads are for!") so he needed a little help- but not bad for the first run.
The rest of his afternoon was spent inside with the bike never further than an arm's reach away- even when he fell aseep at the table, he could not be persuaded to leave the bike long enough for a nap. I'm still working on a bed-time tactic, however I'm pretty sure it will have to entail some sort of compromise on my part.

Potty Training Update!

Kaden has been potty training for about 8 days now and he's doing great! We haven't had any accidents for a couple of days now and yesterday he even went at the mall. Getting him to wear the underwear in the first place was tricky- but once he started wearing them again he eventually stopped resisting. I took him to Target to pick out some new underwear (trying to re-kindle the excitement) and he didn't want any characters- he picked some whitey tighties and LOVES them (go figure). We also picked up some potty candy and stickers for his chart and voila- instant excitement. Every time he says "no, i can't do it" I just have to show him his chart with all the stickers and say "Yes you can, look at how many times you've done it before!" and then he's fine. He doesn't even want candy every time he goes- he's more excited about the stickers. If he goes the rest of the week without accidents then he gets a bike. So YAY for Kaden and yay for me...'man-poo' diapers, I don't miss you one bit!

He wasn't happy about this pic...I think I'll save it for his first date to see :)

Kyson's 2.5 Month Check-Up

Thursday Kyson had his 2 month check-up (a little late since his Dr. was out of town). He weighed 11lbs 12 oz. and was 23.5 inches tall. He started out pretty small at 6lbs 6oz and 20in. so he is doing great at catching up (he should be since he eats every 2 hours still!) The Dr. was very impressed with his neck strength- he's always been able to hold his head up pretty well, and he's doing great holding it up while on his tummy. He even laughed his first real laugh for the first time when I was playing with him during the wait time. He was so happy and smiley for the Dr. and all the nurses-- a charmer already!
Here is are some pics to show how he's grown, the first was taken at only 1 week old, the second at 2.5 months:

Here's a Tip...

First of all, I'm an extremely hard sell for ANYTHING that you bug me in my own home for- it's even worse than telemarketers who call during dinnertime- I HATE solicitors (unless you're a girl scout selling me cookies...but they don't do that anymore in this freak-o world we live in- that's a whole other blog topic). If there's something that I really "can't live without" then I think I will go do my own research and get it myself. Trust me, I'm not sitting at home praying for you to come to my house and sell me raw beef from the meat locker on the back of your rusted out Isuzu pickup. Neither do I care to listen to you tell me how disgusting my mattress is while you try to sell me a Kirby- and NO, I'd rather die than buy a crappy home security system from an annoying punk like you.
Secondly, assuming that I'm a teenager doesn't exactly get you any brownie points-- I'm almost 25 with two kids. The last time I was given the kids menu at the restaurant was at least 7 years ago (that hostess got the scuzz of her lifetime). So before I leave to go and make one of those lame "no solicitors" signs for my front porch, I want to say: If you want to sell me something door to door- make sure that when I answer it, you don't say, "are your parents home?"
